About Us

Murray and I, Victoria, opened the Mornington Rose Guest House as our retirement project. For over 17 years, we have welcomed guests seeking a refined yet relaxed place to stay — one that feels personal, calm, and genuinely cared for.

We believe great hospitality is never intrusive. Our goal is simple: to make you feel welcome, comfortable, and free to enjoy Stratford in your own way. We’re always happy to share insights about Stratford’s theatres, dining, and the surrounding countryside — and just as happy to give you the space to enjoy your stay.

Murray, formerly a Labour Relations and Human Resources professional, is now our resident baker, making delectable scones, bread, and a variety of cookies for our guests to enjoy.

I, Victoria, formerly an elementary school teacher, am now chef de cuisine. Using local meat, produce, and vegetables and herbs from our kitchen garden, I make interesting and varied charcuterie dinners, continental breakfasts, and delectable snacks for our guests.

Creativity lives here at Mornington Rose.

On-site, you’ll find Torrie S Glass Studio, where I fused glass and create flameworked pieces in my kilns, or melt it using a propane/oxygen torch. I love playing with heat, fire, and molten glass to create unique serving pieces and home decor items, wall, window, and garden art, and beautiful glass jewelry

Murray’s woodworking workshop is just across the parking lot as well, where he crafts hand-turned wood, acrylic, and gemstone pens, bowls and other small items on his lathe. Some examples of his creations are in our tiny Gift Shop on the main floor of our house.

These creative pursuits reflect our love of artistry, craftsmanship, and intention — values we share with many of our guests.

We have two cats: Gus and Kit. They are not allowed in guest rooms, but you will often see them relaxing or snoozing on the veranda, or guarding the goldfish in the pond in the garden. They do not allow other pets.

Built in 1905, the Mornington Rose Guest House has undergone many changes in the last hundred and twenty years. A labour of love for both of us, we have once again restored it to its former beauty. Our home now shines with comfort, character, and elegance. Classic taste and inviting furnishings blend with a bright, airy atmosphere to create a fresh, but still traditional look to welcome guests.

Murray and I enjoy the challenges of running our own business. We have incorporated our flair for innovative cuisine and artistic endeavours to provide an effortless and memorable experience for our guests.

Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, planning a theatre getaway, or simply craving a peaceful escape, Mornington Rose welcomes you.
